PNight photo of exterior of AM Comfort ShoesChicago’s southwest business district is not exempt from the challenges of our current economy. While we acknowledge these challenges, the 63rd Street Growth Commission is convinced that working closely with business owners will continue to inject innovative thinking, first-hand knowledge, and hard-earned expertise into powering the engines of our business district.

The Growth Commission supports business owners by giving them the tools they need to counteract financial challenges through education and technical assistance that offer new ways of doing business. The year 2009 marked our first annual Business Development Month, a series of workshops attended by nearly 200 local business owners.

We also focus on developing new initiatives that position the southwest business district as a highly desirable shopping, leisure, and cultural destination. In addition to the Special Projects described on this web site, we are currently exploring a marketing campaign that touts the area as the “International Restaurant Nation” to capitalize on the fact that the district is the ONLY truly diverse business corridor in Chicago.

All of our work is carried out in partnership with a network of local business owners who hold a shared vision of a strong retail economy. Working together, we’re enhancing the retail economy in the Southwest Business Area.

We invite you to spend time on our web site to learn more about what the 63rd Street Growth Commission, and Chicago’s Southwest Side, have to offer.
